Two found guilty of murder
PA Blenheim Two Christchurch men were sentenced to life imprisonment in the High Court in Blenheim yesterday after they were found guilty of murdering a Mongrel Mob leader, John Michael Little, ;
The jury returned its verdict on Shane Shannon Hamilton, aged 25, a sickness beneficiary, and James Kehu Wehi, aged 26, a contractor, after deliberating for six-and-three-quarter hours. A third man, Reihana Chase, aged 29, a carpenter, was found not guilty of murder and an alternative count of being an accessory after the fact and was discharged.
All had denied the charges of murder and Wehi and Chase alternative charges of being an accessory. Mr Little was shot in Picton On August 26 last year by Hamilton, who is paraplegic, after he, Wehi, Chase and another man drove from Christchurch. Hamilton claimed to the police that the shooting was accidental.
After the verdicts were given Hamilton’s girlfriend ran from the court crying, and three women members of the jury were visibly upset.
