Taxi-drivers a group at risk, says Judge
PA Wellington Taxi-drivers were a group at risk, but they could not carry firearms, a District Court judge in Wellington said. Judge Laing fined Robert Watson, a taxi-driver, $5O for carrying an imitation firearm, a starting pistol except for some lawful proper, and sufficient purpose. Watson was ordered to pay $3O witnesses’ expenses. The Judge dismissed a
charge that Watson, aged 55, presented a starting pistol at George Ikenasio Nasalio. Watson denied both charges The charges resulted from an incident in August after Mr Nasalio had taken Watson’s taxi home from a hotel and there was confusion about whether he would pay the fare. Watson said he carried the starting pistol in his cab after being assaulted in November, 1981.
