Beatles’ services to be recognised
NZPA»PA London The Beatles will be made Freemen of the City of Liverpool in a special ceremony later this year. The Liverpool City Council voted 56 to 11 in favour of the proposal yesterday. Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr will be invited to a ceremony later this year and a relative of the late John Lennon will be invited to receive his posthumous freedom.
The freedom is “in recognition of the eminent services rendered by them to the city as musicians and composers and in recognition of the world-wide acclaim of their musical talents.”
