Edgar out of N.Z. test squad
NZPA Kandy The trials of the Wellington opener, Bruce Edgar, continued yesterday when he was omitted from the New Zealand 12 for the first test against Sri Lanka beginning today. As expected, New Zealand left out the medium-pace bowler, Derek Stirling. The captain, Geoff Howarth, will open the New Zealand batting with John Wright, and the Auckland left-hander, John Reid, will take Howarth’s usual place at No. 3. After viewing the match wicket, the New Zealand tour selection panel decided to include both spinners, John Bracewell and Stephen Boock, in the match squad. The team is: Geoff Howarth (captain),>< John Wright, John Reid, Jprtin Crowe, Jeff Crowe, Jeremy Coney, Richard Hadlee, lan Smith, John Bracewell, Lance Cairns, Stephen Boock, and Ewen Chatfield.
