Second-shear prices up
PA Auckland The market for secondshear wool was in sellers’ favour at yesterday’s Auckland sale, compared with the Christchurch sale last Friday, according to the official report. Short oddments were 2.5 per cent to 5 per cent dearer, first lambs’ wool generally in buyers’ favour, and fleece to 2.5 per cent cheaper, the report said. Main buyers were the Continent, New Zealand merchant scourers, Japan, and the Far East. The 17,414 bales of new season’s wool was offered to a full and representative bench of buyers. The Wool Board offered 2992 bales of its stock.
Growers’ wool was 37 per cent second-shear, 19 per cent fleece, 30 per cent lambs’ wool, 10 per cent clothing oddments, and the rest miscellaneous.
The adjusted weighted average sale was 303.04 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 5.6 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on
March 7 to midnight on March 8. The market indicator was 303 c.
