Cook Strait fare fight

PA Wellington Competition for air travellers across Cook Strait will intensify with Air New Zealand increasing its flights. The airline said yesterday that the demand for its services was increasing, and extra flights were being provided on several domestic routes.

From April 1, the airline wonld have more Friendship flights between Wellington and Blenheim. On weekdays, a new flight would leave Wellington at 10.40 a.m. The return flight

would leave Blenheim at 11.30 a.m. The airline would also have an extra flight on Sundays. Cook Strait is one of the most competitive routes on the domestic network with Air New Zealand and the rapidly expanding company, Air Albatross, vying for passengers between Wellington, Blenheim, and Nelson.

Earlier this week Avcorp Commuter withdrew from scheduled flights on the route, which it said was over capacity.
