Brosnan worth following at Hororata tomorrow

The Kerrytown trainer, Richard Brosnan, could provide the key to success for both T.A.B. double and trebles betters at the Hororata Trotting Club’s annual meeting tomorrow.

Brosnan will drive the Gore-owned Dear Sir, in the Cashcover Hororata Cup, while he has engaged Ricky May for Double Cove, another in-form runner.

Dear Sir, an unknown quantity on grass tracks, did splendidly last time out to finish fourth to Norton, Hilarious Guest and Agrinion in the Pan Am Mile on February 18. He recorded Imin 58.7 s for the distance on a night right against fast times. Dear Sir will encounter a. sharp drop in class in this field and with average luck in the running, he should go close to winning. Double Cove’s seventh in the Pan Am Mile Consolation was by no means as 'poor as his placing might suggest He was handy enough for most of the race, but ran into traffic problems in the run home. It is unlikely he could have got close to the runaway winner, Lady El, but he could easily have returned a dividend. He has shown ability on grass tracks and is a proven stayer, suggesting that the 3200 m tomorrow should be well within his capabilities. . In Touch, another dour stayer, has not raced since he established a track record of 3min 7.6 s for 2400 m at the Nelson meeting on January 30. Two days earlier he was runner-up to Delark in the Nelson Cup, a placing which could prove to be a valuable guide to his prospects in this event. Winfield Kai, King Aurea and Rosy Dawn could be as good as any of the others, although a big run from Micawave would not be a complete surorise. Wednesday, suggests that he will be a leading chance in the second leg, the Big Softie Handicap, a race in which Nomad, Shaun and Rapid Lustre will be the hardest to beat.
