Oroua first in quality
Stockwood Farm’s score of 120.9 in the I.CJ.-Tasman Wheat 83 quality competition took their Oroua wheat into first place. Points in the quality competition are based on a Wheat Research Institute formdla of bake score, protein, kernel weight, appearance and screenings.
All wheats in the competition were of milling quality, but the wheat from four plots fell into Category B.
Category B wheat will be paid for at the standard milling rate of $227 per tonne for Rongotea but is subject to a retention of $ll
a tonne, to meet possible marketing losses. However, some or all of the retention may be returned to the grower should there be no losses.
Category B wheat is wheat that scores between 12 and 14 on the M.D.D. bake score.
