Motor-cyclists to ride in protest
Motor-cyclists objecting to recent rises in registration fees will hold a protest ride in Christchurch tomorrow. The protesters will leave the Beckenham shopping centre at 6.30 p.m. The president of the Labour Party, Mr J. P. Anderton, will address the riders on their arrival at Cowles Stadium at 7 p.m. The protest is in response to the recent 33 my cent
increase from $14.50 to $21.55, in motor-cyclists’ accident compensation levy. The Bikers’ Rights Organisation of New Zealand considers the increase, which is a consequence of the Government’s decision to charge the cost of work accidents involving motorvehicles against motorvehicle levies instead of earners’ levies, is unjustified.
