$7 million Govt contract let
A 37 million contract for the construction of a Government department office building in Christchurch has been let to W. Williamson Construction Company, Ltd, says the Acting Minister of State Services, Mr Bolger. The building will be in Hereford Street, close to
Latimer Square, and will have five storeys above the ground. The main occupants will be the district office of the Ministry of Works and Development, which is at present spread among five buildings throughout Christchurch.
Thetfruilding was designed by tsT* Ministry for the
Government Office Accommodation Board. The low-profile office block will have landscaping and open terraces to the north. The design will provide large open office areas for flexibility of use. Mr Bolger said thafrthe Government would decide
later what would happen to the old Government Building at the corner of Worcester Street and Cathedral Square. The Government Office Accommodation Board was expected to make its recommendations on the building’s future to the Cabinet Works Committee in about six weeks.
