G. Lord suspended

PA Wellington The highweight rider, Graeme Lord, will miss the final day of the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday after being suspended on a careless riding charge at Trentham yesterday. Lord, the rider of Grande Fripon, was charged in connection with an incident 700 m from home in the Brougham Highweight when Jo’s Habit received a check when racing on the inside of Grande Fripon. Maree Lyndon was also found guilty of a careless riding charge in the Tory Maiden. The committee found that she allowed her mount to move inwards soon after the start when insufficiently clear, taking the line of Belle of Gold with resultant interference to Kadeesha. Lyndon was fined $4O.

Jim Cassidy was fined $lOO after being found guilty of careless riding on Burletta in the closing stages of the North Island Challenge Stakes. The committee decided that Cassidy dropped his hands and allowed his mount to ease with the result that second placegetter, Reutemann, closed to within a long-neck. The committee looked into the performance of favourite, Gossip, in the Boulcott Handicap. After racing in a prominent position in the early and middle stages, Gossip weakened in the straight and finished towards the rear.

Her rider, David Walsh, told the committee that when left without a trail, Gossip raced very keenly. He felt this was the reason that the horse was unable to run on. The committee considered that the horse had been well tried.
