Moves for peace
Sir,—l suggested only last week to a group of Otago University students that Gary Hart might be the wild card in the United States elections. He appeals to a hitherto inarticulate section of the electorate — potential and actual mothers and young people generally, who are more acutely aware of the nuclear threat. This groundswell of protest has happened in Europe, Australia, now the United States, and we saw signs of it in our local body elections (e.g. Tim Shadbolt). I hope the same groups here take new heart from all this and vote in our national elections for the candidate or party which offers the best hope of establishing a lasting nuclear peace, both in New Zealand and the world—Yours, etc., VERNON WILKINSON.
