Unlit bicycles
Sir,—This evening, when driving home from the centre of the city to St Albans, I counted 43 cyclists on the road. One had lights suitable for night use. Does this city have special dispensation to ignore the requirements of the Road Code, or is it just that the Ministry of Transport people do not, can not, or will not enforce the law? Apart from the absence of adequate lighting, too many of these cyclists showed scant regard for traffic lights, one-way streets or many of the other simple rules of the road that I, a motorist, have to obey. Has it ever occurred to the Ministry of Transport that all these bad habits are continued when the cyclists exchange the bike for a car or motor-cycle?—Yours, etc., DENNIS WILKINSON. March 5, 1984.
