Woman’s loss of hair brings damages
NZPA-AAP Sydney A woman who lost twothirds of her hair after treatment at a hairdressing salon has won damages. Patricia Rae Morris, aged 44, has accepted a settlement in the District Court on undisclosed terms from a salon in the Sydney suburb of Campbelltown. Mrs Morris suffered chemical dermatitis after going to the salon in March, 1981, to have her hair straightened. \ She said the hairdresser used an excessive quantity of a product on her hair and failed to apply it properly. “I have been having my hair straightened for 20 years,” Mrs Morris said. “I
questioned the woman closely whether she knew how to do it and she reassured me about her experience.
“The next day my hair fell out when I started to comb it.”
Mrs Morris said she continued to lose hair over the next six months.
“People were quite nasty after it happened. I came to the door one day and a woman thought I was having chemotherapy for cancer.
“That is how bad it looked. I did not have much hair left and not much scalp either. I had to wear a scarf or Irifcfor seven months. “I am going to have to
put up with a mop of steel wool grey hair for the rest of my life,” she said.
