Lutenist plays
John Ferguson is a guitarist and a pianist who plays the lute. . His musical training began on the first two instruments but in 1978 he turned to the lute, becoming a fulltime student at the Early Music Centre in London. While studying there he began building his own instruments and has now completed four lutes. The 29-year-old musician
has been back in New Zealand for the last two years and has given several concerts in Auckland. John Ferguson will give one Christchurch Festival concert at the State Trinity Centre on Sunday. His programme will feature Italian, Spanish, French and English composers from the early Renaissance to the early Baroque.
