All-night celebration
An all-night celebration of music, dance, drama, and discussion will be held in Christchurch Cathedral on Friday evening. The celebration, organised by a steering committee representing a crosssection of church denominations, has been planned as part of the Christchurch Festival activities. About 200 young people are expected to take
part. The 10-hour programme, beginning at 8 p.m., will offer a series of workshops including mime, floral arranging, mask-making, and explorations of topical religious and social issues.
The co-ordinator of the event, Mr David Tripp, says the programme aims to help young people learn how to celebrate.
“I believe you have more fun when you are involved in creating or working yourself, rather than when you are passively watching. The programme is built round this idea,” said Mr Tripp. The host for the evening will be a television personality, John Hawkesby, better known to North Island people as front man for Auckland’s regional news programme’ “Top Half.”
