Obituary Col. McKenzie-Muir son
PA Wellington Colonel Kenneth McKen-zie-Muirson, a Gallipoli veteran and winner of the Military Cross and bar, died in Wellington on March 1. He was 89. Colonel McKenzie-Muir-son was born in Australia and enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces at the outbreak of World War I. He served on Gallipoli from the landing until the final evacuation. Later he served in
France, having gained his commission, and was there until the Armistice was signed. Apart from the award of the Military Cross and bar during this war, he was also mentioned in dispatches many times. From France, the young captain joined a British regiment, the Duke of York’s
Own Lancers, which was stationed at the Khyber Pass, and served in the Afghan War of that time. After returning to Australia, Colonel McKenzie-
Muirson came to New Zealand where he joined the New Zealand Army at the outbreak of World War 11. He commanded the Ist Scottish Battalion, later dispersed, when it sailed for New Caledonia and was involved in the landing on Mono Island in the Treasury group.
In 1944, he returned to New Zealand Army Headquarters where he remained until his retirement in 1960. Colonel McKenzie-Muir-son is survived by a son.
