Asbestos handling tightened

PA Auckland Safety procedures would be tightened after a spillage of dangerous blue asbestos at the Mangere sewage treatment plant, said an Auckland Regional Authoriity officer yesterday. A drainage manager, Mr L. W. Jones, said that in future a building would be cordoned off immediately after a spillage. Inspectors of both the Health and Labour departments sealed off a building after an air sample was found to have 2.4 times the acceptable level of asbestos.
