Futurity to Red Tempo

NZPA staff correspondent Sydney The New Zealander-bred Red Tempo turned on a sustained finishing burst to snatch the $120,000 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, by a nose. The Auckland-owned four-year-old blazed home over the closing stages of the 1400 m sprint to catch the 25-1 outsider Keepers, and the million-dollar Victorian glamour colt, Centaine. Red Tempo will be retired to stud at Cambridge at the end of his autumn racing. Graham Allen, the owners’ representative, told reporters he had turned down a half million dollar offer for Red Tempo, and that the horse would stand at the Allegro Park Stud in Cambridge. The stud is to be listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange this week with five and a half million one-dollar shares.
