Philips’ computer
Philips is to market a new microcomputer in New Zealand, the P2OOOC. The Dutch company, which has long been in the smallcomputer business, has not previously marketed gen-eral-purpose computers in this country. So far released only in a few European countries, the P2OOOC microcomputer series uses the CP/M operating system and is put together as a “transportable” package. The entry-level machine has a ZBOA microprocessor, 64K bytes of memory, a 23cm (nine inch) screen and two 160 K-byte floppy-disc drives.
Larger systems have greater-capacity disc drives (up to 640 K-bytes each), and there is a system specially designed for scientific and engineering applications with an lEEE-488 bus.
A spokesman for the company said that the exact prices of the new microcomputers had not been set, but he believed they would be between $4OOO and $6OOO.
