Goods shortage?
PA Ashburton A shortage of goods, rather than the luting of the price freeze, might cause price rises mid-year, the executive director of the Retailers’ Federation, Mr Barry Purdy, said in Ashburton yesterday. Mr Purdy told the federation’s conference in Ashburton
that retailers and others might be nervous about holding large stocks of goods and might reduce stock. This could lead to higher prices. Price rises would then be a reflection of the condition of retail stocks in New Zealand rather than the end of the freeze, he said.
