‘Fair Go’ returns with changes

“Fair Go” will be back on One tonight with two new reporters, a new segment called “Soapbox,” and a new award, the “Fair Go Feltex,” for the worst commercial on television, which will be decided by public vote. The four reporters this year are all male and are a|l experienced senior journalists. Brian Edwards and Phillip Alpers are joined by Kevin Milne, formerly of “Production Line,” and Barry Wilson, back in television after a four-year break.

;This means that Diane Gilliam-Knight is in the interesting position of being a Woman producer in charge oi an all-male team, with the big , responsibility of having todeal with complex legal and editorial questions every day. '“But I’m lucky because everyone on the team, especially Brian, is so senior and experienced that I can rely on them to turn in very good work, as they always havedone,” she says.

“I was very disappointed that no women applied for the position, but I have every confidence in the team.

“Our experiences with Clutch Services during the last series has made us want to do more criminaltype stories, and I think we are capable of dealing with that kind of material.”

The new Soapbox segment will feature members of the public giving their views on certain consumer products, while the “Fair Go Feltex” will be awarded to the commercial the public loathes the most.

This is the eighth year “Fair Go” has been on the air, quite a record for a New Zealand-produced show, especially a live one. And as well as the new reporters, there is also a new researcher, Manorma Ram.

Tonight’s programme will include more information on the Clutch Services programme, which was screened at the end of 1983.
