Flood goods sold at auction
Robert Hunter, an auctioneer for Smith’s City Market, holds an amplifer aloft during a flood salvage auction in Christchurch yesterday. The sale, the second held in Christchurch, contained goods salvaged from Hoodtorn Invercargill. It was mainly of whiteware and included 20 automatic washers, 12 dishwashers, 17 fridge-freezers, 21 ranges, 10 television sets, nine freezers, eight clothes driers, and other small home appliances. About 300 people attended the auction which Mr Hunter described as highly satisfactory for everyone involved. Many items sold at half normal retail price.
