General forecast: Mainly fine in the North Island. A band of rain is expected to continue to affect Westland, and about the alps, but in the east rain should gradually ease. District forecasts: Canterbury: Rain about the alps otherwise mainly fine; fresh north-easterlies in exposed places.

Nelson, Marlborough: Light showers over the ranges,

but mainly fine and warm. Buller, Westland: Cloudy and mild with a few light showers. Tomorrow: Scattered rain in Canterbury, clearing on West Coast and Nelson. Extended range forecast for the South Island until Monday: clearing in Buller and Westland from tomorrow; light rain clearing in Canterbury from Sunday.
