Tote and cash problem
PA Wellington The Wairarapa Racing Club has asked the New Zealand Racing conference to allow it to forgo its race meeting at Tauherenikau on April 11. The main reasons were a lack of suitable tote facilities and a projected cash loss, the club said in a statement The club had been unable to complete the main totalisator building, destroyed by fire two years ago, since the New Zealand Racing Authority asked it last year to cease all capital expenditure at Tauherenikau while racing venues in the Wairarapa were considered. This ban on expenditure has now been lifted and the totalisator house and Jet bet conversion at Tauherenikau would soon be completed, the statement said. The club’s application to hold its meeting at Otaki was declined by the conference, leaving the Masterton Racing Club’s course at Opaki the only alternative. However, the club said the projected cash loss and rental would be unacceptable.
