Radisich at Silverstone

Paul Radisich, the 21-year-old Aucklander who won the recently revived Driver to Europe award, will be behind the wheel of a Volkswagen-powered Ralt RT3 racing car contesting the opening round of the British Formula 3 championship series at the Silverstone circuit on Sunday.

In the Just Juice Formula Pacific international racing series in January, Radisich scored 48 points to finish third behind the veteran Aucklander, Ken Smith, and the American 19-year-old wonder boy, Davy Jones.

In that series he drove a Ralt RT4 entered by Ralt Australia and carrying the slogan “Racing for New Zealand.”

The Ralt RT3 that Radisich will drive in the early rounds of the British Formula 3 series is one belonging to the racing team of a former Christchurch journalist, Murray Taylor. It also will carry the “Racing for New Zealand” slogan. Radisich flew to England from Auckland on Monday and arrived in time to put

in a couple of days testing this week before having his first race in a Formula 3 racer on Sunday. Unfortunately, it appears at this stage that the Aucklander will be able to contest the early rounds only in the British championship, for the trust which is handling finances to further the motor racing careers of recipients of the Driver to Europe awards has so far received only sufficient money to enable Radisich to race in Britain until May. The series actually extends through to October and it comprises 17 rounds. However, the Aucklander has a racing engagement every week-end between now and May and he hopes that the fund-raising campaign will prove successful enough to enable the trust to give him the go-ahead to extend his racing campaign for the remainder of the British series. If finances allow, Radisich also proposes to race in the European Formula 3 series, which coincides with the Formula 1 world championship races this season.
