Saab cars soon
For the first time, Swedish Saab cars will soon become available to Christchurch buyers. However, they will be available only in extremely limited numbers.
Auckland-based Torino Motors, a member of the Giltrap group of companies, has been appointed official importer and servicing agent for Saab cars. The Christchurch firm of Manchester Fiat has been appointed one of the two dealers in this country. The other is an Auckland firm.
Torino’s existing licence provides for the importation of only 30 cars a year, the first of which will arrive soon. The only model that will appear here initially will be the two and four-door hatchback versions of the Saab 900 Turbo. This top-of-the-line model is equipped with “automatic performance control,” a device which adjusts the engine to suit varying petrol octane levels. Manchester Fiat already handles other lines from Torino Motors. They include Fiat, Lancia and Ferrari.
