Handcuffs order
A man facing extradiction proceedings in relation to an alleged burglary committed in Australia was ordered to be handcuffed when he reappeared in the dock for the second time yesterday morning in the District Court.
Judge Bradford ordered this to be done after Michael Glynn Jones, aged 25 (Mr S. C. Barker), attempted to punch thfe sergeant in charge of the police escort as he was returning to the holding cells from the dock. Jones was remanded in custody to March 6.
He was arrested in Christchurch on Tuesday on a warrant for failing to appear in a Sydney court on January 22. DEPOSITIONS
Two young men charged with robbing Ben Norman Tolmie Haggitt of $2.30 in cash, and a watch and silver bracelet, worth a total of $167.30, were remanded on bail to April 2 for the taking
of depositions. They are Francis Brian Hanrahan, aged 17, unemployed (Mr M. J. Glue), and William Alfred Boulton, aged 18, a lifter (Mr E. Bedo).
The defendants are charged with committing the offence on February 18. $350 IN FINES
Fines totalling $350 were imposed on a freezing worker convicted bf using insulting language to a police officer, and with assaulting the. officer. The Judge ordered that unless Phillip Ross Green paid the fines immediately he would spend 37 days in prison.
Green, aged 21, committed the offences on February 25.
The Judge said that Green’s criminal record indicated that he had a drinking problem. It was high time he realised that insults, and assaults, on police officers would not be tolerated.
