Alice at the Mill
“Alice,” the Riccarton Players’ latest production is not quite “Alice in Wonderland” or “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” The drama has been adapted from the Lewis Carroll tales. “Alice” is a play for adults where the characters appear in a different light from their original casting. It is an entertaining fantasy
that is a challenge to watch. The play is a surrealistic drama that calls on its audience to interpret its meaning. A troupe format has been adopted with the performers switching roles and presenting many exciting characters. They also form themselves into “human props” and become part of the stage.
Directed by Martin Phelan and Richard Huber, recently returned from a North Island tour with Splinta Stilt Theatre Group, it features original music, especially written by Shane Samsom, who has just come back from London. “Alice” will be performed at the Mill Theatre, Wise Street, from March 7 to 17.
