With its undercarriage lowered for the final landing and the engine cowling removed to allow the attachment of struts (top), Spitfire TE 288 is lifted off its plinth outside the Brevet Club in Christchurch yesterday. The Spitfire was lifted by crane on to a waiting Air Force transporter. Once firmly on deck the aircraft was secured (bottom) for its journey to an Air New Zealand hangar for dismantling.
