Rich Addition shows promise

Special correspondent Dunedin Rich Addition displayed promise when he won the heat for two-year-olds at the Wingatui trials last Sunday.

Rich Addition outfinished the more experienced Kyolic by half a head to record the smart time of 47.8 s for 800 m on the course proper. Rich Addition is a colt by Noble Bijou from First Addition in the stable of Arthur and Leslie Didham. First Addition, which has left the good winners, Sliderule and Mellition, has not produced a foal since Rich Addition.

Glowing Treasure indicated she had recovered from an infected wither when she easily won an 800 m heat in 47.85. Glowing Treasure, ridden by Terry Kennedy, a son of the Wingatui trainer, Brian Kennedy, disputed the pace with Fun Run, then went clear by three

lengths. Double Mystery came from behind and ran down the pacemaker, Owhata Son, in the open 2000 m heat. Owhata Son and Barrow Boy, which ran a splendid fifth fresh-up at Winganui last Tuesday, are now trained by Brenda Harland. The pair were previously with John Dowling, who relinquished his trainer’s licence this season.

Della Flight, a halfsister by Imperial Guard to Bell Flight, in Ali Robinson’s team, had a narrow but impressive win in the 800 m heat for maidens. He returned 48.55. His stablemate, Courier Flight, ran down the pacemaker, Greyt, in the 1200 m open heat. Gordon, Keloid, Can Can and Mokes Mate earned qualification tickets as hurdlers. Aquatint was an easy winner of the 1600 m qualifying trial.
