Emancipation wins
NZPA Staff correspondent Sydney The top mare, Emancipation, showed she was right on target for a return series with New Zealand galloper, McGinty, when she easily won the $20,000 Apollo Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. In the process the Bletchingly mare evened the score with Strawberrv Road, which won the W. S. Cox Plate in Melbourne in the spring. While McGinty raced off with the Air New Zealand Stakes in Auckland, Emancipation showed she was right back to her best in her second race back from a spell to run down the surprise challenger, the former New Zealander, Claim the Quest, in the closing stages of the 1400 m race. The best the heavilybacked mudlark, Strawberry Road, could manage in his first run back
from a spell was a tiring third after leading for most of the journey. The Metropolitan and Caulfield Cup winner, Hayai, was a close fourth, and another former New Zealander, Trissaro, ran fifth in his first race back. Forward Charge was sixth and the Sydney Cup winner, Veloso, last
