‘Ethics month’ in China
The Chinese President, Li Xiannian, has exhorted his one billion fellow citizens to participate in the third annual "socialist ethics month,” a State campaign against surly manners, sloppy service, street spit ting, and other bad habits. ontinued efforts should be made to improve social services, public order, and the environment,” Mr Li said, in national television address on the campaign, which will
last through March. “It is up to the people themselves to improve the environment for their work, study, and rest,” he said. The Communist Government undertook the first socialist ethics month two years ago, in which neighborhood organisations, factories, shops, and farms erect displays, hold contests, and give rewards for people who correct rude or unhygienic practices.
