Woman falls in crater

PA New Plymouth A woman who fell while in the crater of Mount Egmont on Saturday was taken by helicopter to Taranaki Base Hospital at New Plymouth. Senior-Sergeant A. J. McLachlan, of New Plymouth, said Ms Megan Doyle, a nurse at Calvary Hospital, Hawera, had been a member of a climbing party. She fell about 2 p.m. and suffered leg and back injuries. An Eltham helicopter pilot, Mr Alan Beck, was called in and flew to the crater. Although visibility was poor, he lifted Ms Doyle out. She was treated at the hospital and discharged.
