Jaguar mauls youth

PA Auckland A youth, aged 19, was seriously injured when mauled by a jaguar at the Auckland Zoo last evening. The police said the youth was one of five people who climbed over the zoo’s perimeter fence about 10 p.m. At the jaguar’s cage the animal pulled him against the bars and held him by an arm and his neck. It took some time for his friends to get help from staff and free him.

The youth was taken to Auckland Hospital with serious arm, neck, back, and chest wounds.

The police late last evening were speaking to the other four.
