Brilliant gallop by McGinty
Special correspondent Auckland When a time of a second or two slower could have been regarded exceptional, McGinty came up with 1600 m in Imin 40.2 s at Takanini yesterday morning. Ridden as usual by Bob Vance, McGinty gave considerable weight to C’Mon Dear and, once urged along, shrugged off his stablemate. McGinty had given C’Mon Dear a start of two or three lengths. In the finish he was
half a dozen or more clear, running the last 1200 m in Imin 13.25. Even on the inside of the No. 2 grass, which invariably provides fast times, it was impressive going. McGinty, in need of the run, and not often inclined to exert himself in training, was made to work. The gallop, in preparation for the Air New Zealand Stakes on Saturday, probably improved him more than a little.
