Speed change notified

The Waimairi District Council will put circulars in the letter-boxes of residents in Memorial Avenue who will be affected by a proposed speed change on the road.

A trial would not be needed for the 60km/h zone, as if it was unsatisfactory, the change could be reversed, councillors were told at the February meeting last evening.

A special order making the change will be heard at the council’s meeting on March 21. Citizenship A new style of citizenship ceremony was introduced last evening. Before the council meeting, the chairman, Mrs Margaret Murray, said that people who were going to become New

Zealanders should be pleased to do so. She said a changed ceremony last evening was a better way to perform the formalities. For the new ceremony representatives of the Police and the Armed Forces attended, as did local guides and scouts. Pupils of Burnside High School sang the National Anthem at the ceremony for 10 people.
