Container trade boost for Timaru
Vessels of special interest to Christchurch shippers have made their presence felt at the Port of Timaru this week. The vessels are the Thea-S and the Elbe, both self-sup-porting container ships owned by Schepers and Company and chartered to the Jebsen Line. Timaru's expanding container trade has been given a timely shot in the arm by the Jebsen Line as well as by Scan Carriers and Gearbulk in their provision of general trades. The container trade also received a fillip with the arrival of the Tourcoing. Scan Carriers’ Boogabilla, is due to arrive in March. The Eagle Arrow, which is due from Auckland at the week-end, will give the container trade yet another boost. The start of shipments of frozen lamb to Iran is due to begin soon. The Beacon Hill is expected to export 3800 tonnes of frozen lamb to Bandar Abbas, and the Atlantic Star, due on February 24, is expected to take a full load of 3900 tonnes to the same destination.
