Teachers look for jobs

Thirty Canterbury primary school teachers with continuous service have not yet been able to find jobs for this year. Thirty immobile teachers (those unable to transfer) sought teaching jobs in the region, said the Canterbury Education Board's general manager. Mr David Wilson, yesterday. These ’ teachers had continuous service and had preference over those with broken service, he said. The board hoped the teachers would find jobs. There had been 50 continuous service teachers looking for work two weeks ago.

It was difficult to estimate how many teachers

with broken service were looking for teaching jobs. Mr Wilson said. Many of them could be working at other jobs and had not got in touch with the board. The number of unemployed teachers was higher than in 1983 but probably about the same as in 1982. “We do not seem to have received as many resignations as we usually do over the holiday period." he said. The primary term started yesterday for teachers. The teachers with continuous service who were looking for jobs had until May. the end of the first term, to find a position without losing their continuity of service, he said.
