Tane Matthews going north
By
JANE DAVISON
The Tuahiwi jockey, Tane Matthews, is to join the Te Awamutu stable of Bill Sanders next Tuesday. Matthews, aged 19, has completed his apprenticeship with R. T. and B. J. Harris, and came out of his time at the recent Vincent meeting with 101 winners. The transfer was arranged by the Harris partnership so Matthews could
further his career in a region with more opportunities. Sanders has a team of 35 horses in work. Michael Burnett, who has transferred from Neil Beri’s Riccarton establishment, has joined the Harris stable. Matthews’s rides at Riccarton next Monday include Gaelic Bid, Peat, Haldon, Star Piece, Rhett’s Mate, Kintail Lad, Talgo, and Minnie Downes.
