Hollow victory

Canterbury romped to a rather pointless victory over Wellington in the annual Dorrie Leslie track and field contest at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday. The home side ended with 229 points, and Wellington scored a meagre 51. However, this was hardly surprising. The Wellington selectors chose a team of 68 for the trip south, but withdrawals reduced this to 28. There were just four senior women. The international meeting in Auckland was a big counter attraction, although Canterbury should have suffered more than Wellington in that respect.
