Hint shows her class

The talented Riccartontrained filly, Hint, provided the highlight of the Riccarton Turf Club’s trials at Motukarara yesterday with an impressive win in the all classes 1600 m event. Handy from the outset, the grey daughter of Three Legs did best in a keen finish to master Talgo by a neck, with Black Gull and Dainty Dish close by. The current leader in the Wrightson Southern Filly of the Year series, Hint posted a respectable Imin 38.2 s for the 1600 m, the fastest time recorded for that distance yesterday. The useful sprinter, Beauzia, proved too smart for

her rivals in the all classes 1200 m event, registering lmin 12.2 s to account for the John Parsons-trained pair, Sir Ashley and Up The Creek. One two-year-old and six maidens qualified yesterday, the most interesting being Secured Money, a two-year-old half-brother to the Wellington Cup winner, Secured Deposit. Trained at Riccarton by Barry Taggart, the son of Touch Money recorded 61.2 s for the 1000 m journey. The maiden qualifiers were Southern Queen, Lansom. Gay’s Pal, Royal Dream (1200 m Star Piece and Y Telor 1600 m).
