High-technology investment
Sir, — The formation of a group of Christchurch businessmen to promote the city for high technology investment (January 18), while laudable, raises some concern. Yet another group has been established to develop investment in industry in Christchurch. The economic hard times hitting the South Island are making responsible people look harder at their own resources. Many of their ideas are worth promotion and encouragement; but we must avoid independent and unco-ordinated efforts by individuals, groups or agencies. We must use the facilities of the various business development groups already in existence, and encourage one of them to take on the role of co-ordinator, otherwise we will have yet another organisation set up to do just that. — Yours, etc.,
GARY W. STURGESS. January 18, 1984.
