Gangmen arrested
Seven gang members accused of slaughtering 11 boys and dumping their bodies into a river in northeastern India have been arrested. All the boys, aged six to 16, belonged to the Yadav caste of milkmen and cowherds, and the massacre was the culmination of a year-long caste feud between two groups, local officials were quoted as saying.—New Delhi.
Child-rapist caned
More than 10,000 people applauded as the rapist of a four-year-old girl was caned 30 times in a Karachi football stadium. After the caning, supervised by two prison doctors, Awal Khan, aged 32, was taken to hospital. “Awal Khan will be all right after 10 days,” the Karachi Central
jail superintendent, Qazi Mumtaz Ahmad, said. “However, he sill not be able to sleep on his back for at least 10 days.”—Karachi. Climber killed A Polish mountaineer has been swept to his death by fierce winds after making his first successful winter ascent of Nepal’s Mount Api. He was Andrzej Bielun, aged 37, a food-tester from Gdynia.— Kathmandu.
