Queen busiest of Family
NZPA-AP London The Queen is by far the hardest working member of the Royal Family, according to T.C.M. O’Donovan, who keeps close watch on their public activities. Last year the Queen was at 337 official visits, opening ceremonies, receptions, lunches, dinners, banquets,meetings, audiences, and investitures. She also toured nine overseas countries with Prince Philip, and had a weekly audience with the Prime Minister, Mrs Margaret Thatcher. Princess Anne attended 244 events and visited six
countries. Prince Philip was at 205 events and visited 21 countries.
The Queen will be 58 in April. The figures were tallied from the daily Court Circular by Mr O’Donovan a reader of “The Times.” The O’Donovan ratings for attendance at events by the other Royals: Prince Charles, 168, Duke of Gloucester, 151; Duke of Kent, 121; the Queen Mother and Princess Alexandra, 119 each; Princess Margaret, 116; Princess of Wales, 110; Duchess of Gloucester, 86; Princess Alice, 40; Duchess of Kent, 33; Prince Andrew, 14; and Prince Edward, 7.
