Would-be robber flees
A would-be robber lost his nerve and fled the United Building Society office in Riccarton Road yesterday without taking a cent. The man entered the office about 2.30 p.m., presented a hand gun at a teller, and demanded money.
He panicked and ran out of the building when a customer walked in. Detectives were still looking for the man last even-
ing. He was described as a Caucasion, aged about 20, 155 cm (sft Ilin) tall, with shoulder-length brown hair. He wore a grey sweat shirt with the number 89 printed on it, blue jeans and jandals. The gun was about 18cm long with a varnished wooden handle. No-one was hurt in the incident.
Anyone who saw the man leave the building should get in touch with the police.
