Carols by candlelight
Christmas is a time for tradition and carols by candlelight on the banks of the Avon River has become a part of this. It has been held every year since 1948 and this year will be no exception. The Y.M.C.A. has organised the event for 9 p.m. on Friday, December 23, and 6000 song books have been printed in anticipation of a crowd exceeding last year’s record of 10,000. Carols will be played by the Salvation Army band, conducted by Mr Frank Dennis, of the Christchurch Teachers’ College. Improve-
ments have been made to the sound system in an attempt to overcome acoustics problems experienced last year. Song books and four candles can be bought for $l.
