Design award winner
PA Auckland A computerised speaking lectern has won the Kent Student Design Award, announced in Auckland. The entry, designed by a Wellington Polytechnic student, Mr Warren Burton, replaced the traditional wooden speaking platform with a micro terminal moulded to fit the speaker’s hand. The terminal can be linked to a word processor to provide the speaker with an electronic display of his speech notes on a small screen. A $7OOO grant from Kent Heating, Ltd, was presented to Mr Burton by the Chief Government Whip, Mr D. C. McKinnon. Entries were submitted by 14 fourth-year industrial design students. Next year’s award would also be open to Australian students, said Kent’s general manager, Mr Noel Lockhart.
