General forecast: South-easterlies predominating over Marlborough, Nelson, and Buller with periods of rain and some heavy falls. In Canterbury and Westland rain slowly easing to showers in the north and clearing in the south. Moderate south-east-erlies tending northeasterly. District forecasts: Canterbury: Rain slowly easing from the south; occasional showers persisting about the coast but fine intervals increasing inland; cool easterly to north-easterly winds, fresh in exposed places.

Marlborough: Cold, southerly winds, strong in exposed coastal areas, with long periods of rain, heavy at times. Nelson and Buller: Fresh winds from the easterly quarter with further rain; sometimes heavy in Buller. Westland: Becoming fine in the south but scattered rain persisting in north Westland; easterlies, fresh in exposed places. Tomorrow: Coastal drizzle, night and morning, but otherwise fine in Canterbury and scattered showers in Nelson, Marlborough, and Buller; fine in Westland.
