Youth swept away
PA Auckland Searchers have found the body of an Auckland youth near the Waitengaua Stream in the Kaimai Ranges. He was Peter Reyngoud, aged 16, of Epsom. He was swept away as he and six other members of the Hillsborough Baptist Boys’ Brigade were trying to cross the stream in heavy rain on Wednesday. After failing to find him, his companions left provisions for him and tramped to Te Aroha for help. Conditions were so bad the normally four-hour tramp took a day before the party raised the alarm late on Thursday afternoon. A big search party from Tauranga went into the area at dawn yesterday.
